Harlem Wants a Grandfather Clock

A grandfather clock is a nice piece of furniture, Harlem, if you like a more traditional look in your living room. My favorite grandfather clock is the Howard Miller grandfather clock . It is unbelievably traditional in styling. It has the hanging pendulum at the bottom of the clock, and you can see it swigning all the time through the glass.

Another really neat thing is the Westminster Clock chimes. It sounds beautiful. I hope there is a way to mute these chimes, because they may wake you up at night, if you are sleeping in the living room, but if not, I don't think it is a problem. Anyway, I just checked, and it does have a chime silencing option. The people who designed this beautiful, standing clock thought of everything. The deep bell-like sound if certainly a conversation piece noise, if you have guests and they get to hear it. Grandfather clocks are a sort of cultural icon, with even plays about the grandfather clock. I remember the play when I was a boy, and the song about the clock. It went: Many years without trembling, tick, tick, tick, Many years without stumbling, tick tick tick- But it stopped short, never to ring again when the old man died.

Anyway, get an idea of the appearance of this clock. It is tall and narrow, and it goes up to about 6 1/2 feet off the ground. Another issue to think about is new versus antique grandfather clocks. The new clocks have great workmanship, and look very traditional. The antiques may be a better investment deal, but be prepared to have them repaired to make sure they work well.
