Getting High on the New York High Line

Time to get high on the NYC High Line park. That means doing some astronomy work, not using controlled substances, or at least doing both at the same time at the Highline.

The American Astronomical Association will be observing the solar system through telescopes on the High Line every Tuesday evening from now until the end of October. Targets are the Moon and Jupiter. If there is enough interest, this can continue into November and possibly expand to other days. The more interest there is in astronomy, Harlem dudes, the more chance we can get the Obama Administration to revive the space program, go back to the Moon, and mine the best future power fuel-- Helium-3. There's lots of Helium-3 on the moon due to ionizing radiation there.

Getting to the High Line- The nearest subway station is the 14th Street & 8th Ave stop on the A/C/E trains. From there it's only a block and a half walk to 10th Ave (or take the crosstown bus). Observing Locations- NOW THAT JUPITER HAS MOVED SOUTH, WE WILL BE OBSERVING at a location SOUTH OF THE 14TH STREET ENTRANCE, BELOW THE HOTEL. THIS WILL AFFORD US A NICE VIEW OF JUPITER AND (WHEN PRESENT) THE MOON. THE CLOSEST ENTRANCE IS GANSEVOORT STREET, BUT IT'S NOT TOO FAR FROM THE 14TH STREET. Hours- AAA observing will take place from dusk until about 9:45.

You can enter the park at any one of these entrances/exits: Gansevoort Street, 14th Street, 16th Street (with elevator access), 18th Street and 20th Street.
